Annapurna Base Camp Trekking

Annapurna Sanctuary is one of the most famous and beautiful trekking routes In Nepal. The trail passes through typical Gurung and Magar villages and follows the Modi Khola upstream into the Annapurna Sanctuary, a valley surrounded by towering Himalayan peaks. It is a spectacular trek, reaching up to the South Face of Annapurna I (8,091m), offering breathtaking views of Machhapuchhare (6,993m). You will be able to view a magnificent sunrise over Dhaulagiri (8,167m) and the Annapurna range from Poon Hill.

Your Annapurna Sanctuary trek commences in the ancient city of Kathmandu. From here you will be transported by bus or by flight to Pokhara, one of the most attractive cities in Nepal. It is the second largest city and is situated on the shores of the natural and beautiful Fewa Lake, commanding some fine mountain views. When you arrive in Pokhara you will begin to feel refreshed after the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu. The trek begins from the small and attractive village of Nayapul (New Bridge) walking through ever green and Rhododendron forests. The second day starts in the beautiful Ghorepani village, where you will see your first magnificent view of Poon Hill (3210m). Early next morning you will ascend Poon Hill for about an hour to observe spectacular mountain views and colourful Rhododendron forests. From the top you will see more than fifteen mountain ranges, such as Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Manaslu, Lamjung Himal, Nilgiri, Tukuche, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhare, Ganga Purna and Dhampus. There are fourteen 8000m mountains in the world and eight of them are in Nepal. Five of them are situated in the eastern part of Nepal and here there are three, Dhaulagiri (8167m), Manaslu (8163m) and Annapurna I (8091m). The peaks of the Annapurna range are between 6000m and 8167m. After the Poon Hill experience, you will arrive at the typical Gurung village of Ghandruk at (1951m). After a gradual trek up, the village of Chhomrong, is the next attraction and stopping point, boasting crystal clear views of the unconquered Machhapuchhare (6,993m), which resembles a fish tail. The trail then goes on to the Himalaya Hotel (2840m), where you can devour even more magnificent views of the Himalayas. Your journey beyond the Himalaya Hotel becomes slightly more difficult during the ascent to Machhapuchhare Base Camp (3,700m). The peaks of Annapurna-III (7,555m) and Annapurna-IV (7,545m) are visible from this point and the gigantic glacier of Machhapuchhare makes its presence felt. You will have a rest day here, as acclimatization is necessary and this is also a great opportunity for you to enjoy the phenomenal mountain views.

The next leg of the trek will take you to Annapurna Base Camp (4,130m), located at the heart of a natural amphitheatre, a picture that will remain with you forever. The sunrise is another view to cherish, as it gradually illuminates the peak of Annapurna I (8,091m). Whilst on this massive glacier, you can orchestrate a snowball fight or build a snowman. The last highlight of this trek is to return the same way until you reach Chhomrong village. Just 20 minutes from the lodge at Jhinu Danda there are the natural hot springs, a gift from nature, in which to relax. Your last day of trekking will take you through Landruk village or Pothana Dhampus and onto your final destination at Phedi. You will travel to Pokhara by vehicle for about an hour and a half (18 km).
