Everest Ganesh Himal & Annapurna Region 2007 & 2010
I met Jaya in April 2007, who guided me on the Gokyo – Cho La pass – Everest Base Camp Trek. As well as wanting to do this trek, I was also out there with a work colleague who was climbing Everest that season (he succeeded with Alpine Ascents). Jaya more than met my expectations and assisted me in my needs for the trek, ensuring I could meet up with my colleague at specific places, as we had different itineraries. My personal highlight was meeting him at Base Camp, where his group was carrying out a Puja ceremony, something I hadn’t seen before. Jaya found good accommodation in all of the villages and as a bonus I paid extra to get us into the Eco Lodge at Lobuche. In addition he will take account of your physical condition, primarily thinking about your walking speed and not allowing you to ascend the trail too quickly in order to aid acclimatisation.
He noted that I had some time left in my holiday, which I had set aside for sightseeing and collecting souvenirs in Kathmandu. He asked if I would like to trek to his village, just south of the Ganesh Himal. It gave me a further insight into Nepalese culture, a different way of life in comparison to the ‘commercialised’ regions of the Khumbu and Annapurna.
He is very friendly and is open, honest and understanding with a great sense of humour. He always seems to be happy, but then he loves his job, which you can probably understand! He has a great knowledge of Nepal’s rich history and culture and was always quick to point this out along the way.
Jaya will pick you up from the airport and will ably assist you in looking for extra gear you may require for the trek.
Jaya is not just a guide to me, he is also a friend. We have stayed in contact since the Everest Base Camp trek and I visited Nepal again in October/November 2010. I was one of Jaya’s first customers since going freelance and I had intended to trek Kanchenjunga, as well as trekking back to his village. There were problems for me to fulfil this trek, so he suggested and detailed a new itinerary perfectly within my timescale. We first trekked in the Ganesh Himal area back to his village, this time via the start of the Langtang route, catching a bus to Syrabru Bensi and west over two passes. A further two days trekking, a Jeep and two buses led me to the Annapurna Circuit. It also gave me the opportunity to visit Pokhara and carry out some sightseeing in Kathmandu’s districts of Bhaktapur and Patan.
I can thoroughly recommend Jaya as a guide and if you enjoy your trek as much as me, then you will have had one of your best experiences of a life time.

Ghorepani Trekking
Jaya was such an excellent guide on our first trekking trip in Nepal, we asked him to guide us on our second trip, one year later. He is a delightful person to travel with - full of information about the surrounding area, extremely polite and friendly, trustworthy, and with a great sense of humor. He took care of absolutely everything on our trip - not just the porters, airline tickets, ground transport, tea-houses, and meals, but also taking photos and giving tips about where best to do that, providing snacks on the trail, and sharing stories of life in Nepal. He gives the personal touch that makes the trek so incredible. We recommend him to all our friends, and we’re just waiting until we get enough vacation time to trek with him again! Thanks for everything, Jaya!!

Mera peak top on October 2009,With Jaya Gurung !
On our climbing expedition to Mera Peak, we had Jaya Gurung as our guide. He was the absolute best in every manner! A pure joy to be around. He was hard working, efficient, knowlegable, and took extremely good care of us, looking after ever detail. I would never again go to Nepal without Jaya Gurung as my guide.

Our trek was starting from Jiri to Mera peak top 6475 m. With Guide Jaya.
It is with much joy and enthusiasm that I write this recommendation for Nepal Adventure Guides. Last summer (2009) I participated in a trek and climb from Jiri to Mera Peak via Lukla in the Everest region of Nepal. My guide, Jaya Gurung, impressed me greatly with both his professionalism and boundless optimism throughout the trip.
The trip began as a logistical nightmare for any guiding organization; nation-wide bus strikes had crippled public transit. Working around this problem by hiring a private van, we then ran into an unrelated roadblock en route to Jiri (due to a local dispute.) Jaya, undaunted by these obstacles, impressed me with his resilience and quick thinking. We lost little time and our adventure was soon underway.
Perhaps I was most impressed by the way Jaya treated us during the trek. Raining almost constantly throughout the trip, often in cold temperatures, Jaya managed to keep our spirits high, always smiling, joking, and ensuring we were as warm and comfortable as possible; he treated us like his family.
So, it is my absolute pleasure to provide this recommendation. I can wholeheartedly say that, should I be fortunate enough to return to Nepal, I want no one else to be by my side exploring the different regions of Nepal than Jaya.
Please, feel free to email with any questions you may have. If you wish to talk in person, let me know and we can arrange a time to chat.

Annapurna Base Camp Trekking 2008
Namaste,
I'm fine. Our friends are going well here. Here is my comment for the trip in Nepal as below. Attached with photo for the trek to ABC.Our group of 9 persons went to Nepal for 16 days in 2008. The trip was really happy and had many unforgetable memories, especially trekking to Annapurna Base Camp with Jaya. Luckily, we saw the beautiful view of the mountain in Poonhill and ABC, such as Fish Tail, Annapurna South, Hiun Chuli, etc. The guides and porters were very friendly and helpful. They took care of our food, accomodation and transportation. We didn’t have to worry anything. We just enjoyed the trek. Someone says Nepal means Never Ending Peace And Love. I have the same feelings after travelling in Nepal, where is a country combined with rich cultural heritage and natural environment. It was a great experience for me.
Take Care
Regards,
Tina From Hongkong !

Annapurna Ghorepani Poonhill Trekking
We are a German/British family living in Goa and we went trekking with Jaya in April/May 2009 in the Annapurna range. It was our first trekking experience and we had an amazing and very adventurous time. Jaya was our guide during the whole week of trekking an he proved to be the best possible companion for us and our two sons (8 and 10 years old at the time). He is not only wonderfully knowledgeable about the flora & fauna of the Himalayas but moreover is reliable, organized and adequately cautious. He knows all about the dangers of the mountains and how to avoid them. We felt totally safe with him and at the same time we all had great fun and we were laughing so much throughout the time! At the end of the trekking days we had to split up and my husband carried on with one porter and the boys and I wanted to return back. Our younger son had very bad knee ache and Jaya carried him down the mountain for almost a whole day! He kept smiling all the time although it must have been very tiring. Jaya has a beautiful positive spirit and is a top guide who I would recommend to anyone at any time - in particular families as he is great with children too!

My Trek to Everest Base Camp (April - May 2010)
My adventure started April 22nd when I flew to Kathmandu from Calgary, Canada.
My plan was to meet 2 Canadian friends on the 27th in Kathmandu and trek "unsupported" from Lukla to the Everest Base camp. I arrived safely in Kathmandu on April 24th, but my luggage did not. Finding my backpack in time to leave with my friends was getting a little complicated but with the help of a local Nepalese trekking company, my bag was found in time for me to leave for Lukla with my friends. Actually, something even better happened. I was so happy to get my backpack on time and I felt I had some sort of a debt to the trekking company that I decided to hire a trekking guide from them. That was the best decision I made in Nepal. That guide happened to be Jaya!!
The best way to describe Jaya is by what other trekkers I met had to say.. Most said: Wow!! Where did you get this guy?
The reasons they all said that is because Jaya speaks English better then most guides, is always smiling even when things get rough, he is very knowledgeable and more social then most guides. He is also very well known and respected throughout the mountains. My trekking experience was completely enhanced because of his presence. I strongly recommend his services to anyone interested in having profound Himalayan trekking experience.
Thanks Jaya!!

Everest Base Camp Trekking 2011
My Wife Katy and I were fortunate to have Jaya recommended to us by Steve Cole at a charity presentation on Everest given by James Ogilvy who had himself summited Everest. Steve had trekked many times with Jaya and they are now very good friends through their trekking experience together.
We are both very thankful for this introduction. We had planned our trek around 5-6 months before arriving in Nepal and Jaya was constantly in touch throughout this time by email and even called us from nepal to ensure that we were happy with all of the arrangements for our trek. By the time we arrived in Nepal Jaya did feel like a friend that we had known for a long time.
With Jaya you very much get the personal touch. From picking us up at the airport to our onward bus to Pokhara, Jaya took care of all of our arrangements. Despite 6 days of no flights to or from Lukla, Jaya ensured that we left kathmandu on the day that we had booked, ahead of thousands who had been waiting for days!!
Our standard of Tea House on the way was always of a good standard throughout our trek to Base Camp with a good standard of food also.
But it is with the trek itself that Jaya looks after you. With my wife and I not being the most proficient of hill walkers, Jaya ensured that we went slowly, slowly all the way keeping us in snacks and hot drinks all the way. His knowledge of all of the surrounding peaks and genuine love of his job makes for the most amazing experience with scenery that has to be seen to be believed. A very unique experience.
We would strongly recommend Jaya Gurung as a guide in any of the trekking regions of Nepal. With Jaya you get a guide and a friend who goes just that bit further to ensure that you have an outstanding experience on top of the world.

Manaslu & Tsum Valley Trekking 2010
I went on a month-long trek with Jaya through the Tsum Valley and Manaslu in April-May of 2010. The scenery and surrounding area is simply mind-blowing. It was truly an amazing, unique and special experience. I highly recommend the trek to those who are interested in visiting a remote, less-developed, quiet, peaceful, more off-the-beaten-track sort of place.
As a guide, Jaya is extremely competent; my safety, comfort and well-being were always of prime importance. He has a very positive attitude and is very interested in helping his clients learn more about Nepal. His enthusiasm for his country is esvident as he speaks with pride about Nepal, its people and the customs and culture of the land. Ever-smiling, Jaya is a pleasure to be around and was also very interested in learning all about me.
To those looking for a guide who is competent, personable, looks after your every need and is enthusiastic about helping you learn more about Nepal, than Jaya is the right guide for you!

Upper Mustang Trekking 2011
We spent four weeks trekking with Jaya Gurung, completing both the Everest base camp trek and Lo-Manthang trek. We highly recommend Jaya as a trekking guide in Nepal. He has great English skills and an extensive knowledge base in regards to Nepali landscape and culture and was able to answer all the questions that we had. His endless supply of biscuits provided by his lovely wife and produced at the most opportune moments, was fantastic! The after dinner apple dessert was a lovely touch too! When things didn't go to plan, Jaya was always well prepared, willing to carry extra luggage in times of sickness and act as resident doctor when needed. Thank you so much Jaya for all our fantastic times trekking!!!
